SR 49059 is an orally active synthetic small molecule that is a potent and selective inhibitor of the arginine vasopressin (AVP) V1a-receptor (Ki=1.1-6.3nM). AVP is an important hormone for circulatory and water homeostasis, as well as renal hemodynamic alterations, water retention, and cardiac remodeling in congestive heart failure.
