ELISA
Inositol 1,4,5-trisphosphate (IP3) is a crucial intracellular signaling molecule that plays an essential role in various cellular processes by regulating calcium release from the endoplasmic reticulum. IP3 is generated through the hydrolysis of phosphatidylinositol 4,5-bisphosphate (PIP2) by the enzyme phospholipase C (PLC) following receptor activation. The released IP3 binds to its receptors, inositol 1,4,5-trisphosphate receptors (ITPRs), which are located on the endoplasmic reticulum membrane. This binding triggers the release of Ca2+ ions into the cytoplasm, leading to numerous downstream effects, including muscle contraction, secretion, metabolism, and cell growth. ITPRs are encoded by different genes leading to multiple isoforms (ITPR1, ITPR2, and ITPR3), each showing distinct tissue distribution and regulatory properties. Understanding the specific functions and regulatory mechanisms of IP3 and ITPRs is critical for elucidating their roles in health and disease.
