Thionin acetate is a strongly staining metachromatic dye that is widely used for biological staining. Thionine can also be used in place of Schiff reagent in quantitative Feulgen staining of DNA. It can also be used to mediate electron transfer in microbial fuel cells. It is also employed as a general nuclear stain for chromatin and mucin; for staining Nissl granules by end-point buffering and for showing malignant cells in frozen biopsy sections; and as a stain for semi-thin sections of plant material for light microscopy.

ApplicationsL’acétate de thionine est un colorant métachromatique fortement coloré qui est largement utilisé pour la coloration biologique. La thionine peut également être utilisée à la place du réactif de Schiff dans la coloration quantitative de Feulgen de l’ADN. Elle peut également servir de médiateur pour le transfert d’électrons dans les piles à combustible microbiennes. Elle est également utilisée comme coloration nucléaire générale pour la chromatine et la mucine, pour la coloration des granules Nissl par tamponnage des extrémités et pour la représentation des cellules malignes dans les coupes de biopsie congelées ; et comme coloration pour les coupes semi-fines de matière végétale pour la microscopie optique.SolubilitéSoluble dans l’eau (∼2,5 mg/ml à 25°C) et HOAc : H2O (1:1) (1 mg/ml). Insoluble dans l’éthanol.NotesConserver à l’abri des agents oxydants. Gardez le récipient bien fermé et placez-le dans un endroit frais, sec et bien ventilé.
